Comparison

Load7 vs Hevy

Hevy is the most downloaded tracker in this category and has the cheapest paid plan in it. Load7 costs roughly seven and a half times more per year. Those two numbers sound like the end of the argument, and they are not, because the apps sell different things.

Every figure below comes from the vendor’s own pricing page or its App Store listing, with a source link under each app. Where a vendor does not publish a number, the table says "No data" instead of an estimate.

Price: Hevy wins this outright

Hevy Pro costs USD 23.99 a year, or USD 74.99 once for lifetime access. Load7 Premium is USD 14.99 a month with no annual plan, so a year runs to USD 179.88. Five months of Load7 Premium costs more than owning Hevy forever.

No framing changes that. What the gap pays for is a different product. Hevy Pro lifts the free tier’s limits and adds Hevy Trainer, a plan generator. Load7 Premium is the AI layer itself: the routine generator, importing a plan from a screenshot, describing a workout in words, the coach chat, and suggestions you apply in one click.

If price is the deciding factor, the honest recommendation is Hevy and you can stop reading here.

Free plans: the wall sits in a different place

Both apps have a real free tier and both put a wall somewhere. Hevy gives you unlimited logging but holds you to 4 routines and 7 custom exercises. Load7 gives you unlimited logging, no cap on how many routines you keep, and the full stats set, while adding custom exercises is Premium.

That makes the split easy to test against your own training. Keep a main block, a travel variant and a deload week side by side and Hevy’s four slots are already gone. Build your training around bar variations that no built-in catalogue carries and Load7’s free plan stops you where Hevy would not.

Neither app shows ads. Hevy’s App Store listing declares none, and Load7 ships without a single advertising SDK in the bundle.

Who each app is for

Two apps, two short answers.

Load7
People who want their plan actively driven rather than merely recorded, and who accept a price closer to coaching than to tracking.
Hevy
Most people who simply want to log their training. The lowest price here and the strongest community.

When to choose Hevy instead

Four situations where Hevy is the better app. None of them is an edge case:

  • You write your own programme. Load7 Premium sells the decision layer, so if next week is already settled in your head, that is USD 179.88 a year for a screen you will not open.
  • You want to pay once. Hevy sells a lifetime licence for USD 74.99. Load7 bills monthly only, with no annual plan and no one-off option.
  • You train with people and want that inside the app. Hevy’s feed is the strongest community in this category, Load7 has no equivalent and is not building one.
  • You are setting up someone in their first year of lifting. Hevy’s free tier will carry them through that year without ever asking for money.

FAQ

Is Load7 better than Hevy?

They answer different questions. Hevy is the better logger and costs USD 23.99 a year against USD 179.88 for Load7 Premium, so for recording training you plan yourself, Hevy is the better buy. Load7 is built for the step before that, deciding what next week should look like. Its free tier covers logging with no routine cap, so the claim can be tested without paying.

Which has the better free plan, Load7 or Hevy?

Load7 on routine count, Hevy on custom exercises. Load7 free has no cap on routines and includes the full stats set with no ads. Hevy free allows 4 routines and 7 custom exercises alongside unlimited logging. Load7 keeps custom exercises behind Premium, so if your programme depends on movements outside a standard catalogue, Hevy free restricts you less.

Does Hevy have an AI coach?

Hevy Pro includes Hevy Trainer, a workout plan generator. It builds a programme and adjusts it. Load7 Premium adds a coach chat on top of the generator, so a change to the plan can be questioned and the answer applied in one click. Whether that difference is worth roughly USD 156 a year depends on how often you would actually ask.

Can I move my routines from Hevy to Load7?

Load7 Premium reads a routine from a screenshot, so a Hevy routine can be rebuilt without retyping it set by set. Logging and stats on the Load7 side are free, so the import is the only part that needs a subscription.

Does Load7 have an annual plan or a lifetime option?

Neither. Load7 Premium is billed monthly at USD 14.99, with the first week free for new subscribers. Hevy offers both an annual plan at USD 23.99 and a lifetime licence at USD 74.99.
